Striking in 2011

Striking events take place every year, some years they are more extreme or important than others. There were of course also striking things in 2011 and I have listed a number of them.

End of the world

According to an American pastor, the world would end on May 21, 2011. He bases this on indications from the Bible combined with a calculation. According to the Bible, Noah was given 7 days by God to build an Ark so that he could save all the animals from the flood. A day would count as 1000 years and 7 times 1000 is 7000, from which you subtract the year zero. After all, the year zero does not exist according to the Bible. This would then mean that a new solar flood would occur on May 21, 2011 and last until October 21. Only 2% of the world’s population would survive.

Warmest October 1st ever

On October 1, a temperature of 26 degrees was measured in De Bilt. The highest temperature ever on October 1. The previous record was 24.1 degrees in 1908.

Be normal man

The most discussed parliamentary debate of 2011 was on October 21. Rutte accused Wilders of making an insulting comment about Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan. Wilders denied and said to Rutte: You’re normal man! To which Rutte of course responded with: Be normal, man! Many people found this disgraceful, it is street talk and is really unacceptable in politics.

Cat with two faces

The blue-eyed Ragdoll was born with two faces and is named Frank and Louie. Such cats are called Janus cats, derived from the two-faced Roman god Janus. These cats usually don’t live longer than two days, but Frank and Louie have already turned twelve years old.

Wettest summer

July and August have seen the most rainfall since 1906. About 350mm fell in these months, 100mm more than average. Most of it fell in the west-central Netherlands and it remained driest in Vlissingen.

Particle faster than light

CERN scientists may have made a very special discovery, a particle that travels faster than light. Is Albert Einstein’s theory of relativity incorrect or is it a system error? Somehow they hope that they are right, because this is really a huge discovery, but on the other hand, this could still cause serious problems. It also means that it would theoretically be possible to go back in time.

Tsunami Japan

Friday, March 11, 2011, Japan was hit by a massive earthquake measuring 8.9 on the Richter scale, followed by a very devastating tsunami. This also damaged the nuclear power plant and caused the radiation level to rise significantly. A nuclear disaster occurred. news highlighted
