Ameland is an area surrounded by water, but that does not mean that it is devoid of news. The world news is received loud and clear on the island, not least because of the medium of revision and the internet. News from the island itself is also widely published. Ameland mobile

Persbureau Ameland, together with a specialized company, developed an application for the iPhone and iPad and a mobile website for all other smartphones. The iPhone application is called Ameland Actueel and the mobile website can be found on the smartphone as www.ameland-actueel.nl. The app was launched on August 2, 2010. The app can be found in the App Store, in the News section, and can be downloaded for free. The Ameland Current App and the mobile website – which offers the same as the app but for Android and Windows-powered smartphones – is filled with the current affairs of the island, the Ameland agenda, the weather and classified advertisements in Ameland Ameland. It is the first app with news and locations of the island. The mobile website was launched at the same time as the app, which can be consulted on all smartphones. It can be found at www.ameland-actueel.nl.

Ameland photo

Photographer Jantina Scheltema works under the name AmelandFoto as a photographer of portraits, reports, workshops, art photography, wedding photography and for the magazine Ameland in Zicht. In 2013, Scheltema was nominated for the prestigious Bridal Photo Award. She did not win the main prize, but she did receive an honorable mention for her photo.

Photographer Jan Spoelstra takes photos for various media. He became a Wadden Gold photographer in 2012 and, among other things, he makes images for the Leeuwarder Courant.

Ameland InSight

Ameland InZicht was first published in June 2012. The contemporary, modern magazine covers many facets of the Wadden Island. Ameland InZicht is about experiencing Ameland. This experience is conveyed in the magazine with striking photos and texts. Ameland InZicht shows that the Wadden Island has everything to offer for bon vivants, without losing sight of the beautiful nature. Since January 2013, the Ameland InZicht website has been called AIZMagazine.nl.

The Amelander

The Amelander is a colorful magazine that comes out 11 times a year. It is a news and advertising magazine and a continuation of De Nieuwe Amelander , which has existed since 1964.

The Krant van Ameland was a small format paper newspaper that was published in 23 issues from 2007 to autumn 2008. Then the paper newspaper switched to the internet: it returned to its source and became digital again. The digital newspaper of Ameland is provided by Persbureau Ameland.

The Ameland Cable News Foundation has existed since August 1988. The foundation aims to provide objective news, information and entertainment for the residents of Ameland and tourists. This is done through radio broadcasts via the Local Broadcaster Ameland (LOA) and text television via the cable newspaper. The LOA can be listened to via the internet and via the airwaves 89.4 fm and via Kabel Noord Digitaal on Ameland via 105.8 fm.

Leeuwarder Courant

A widely read newspaper on Ameland is the provincial Leeuwarder Courant (LC). The LC has its editorial staff in Leeuwarden and is part of the NDC, Northern newspaper Combinatie.

Friesch Dagblad

The island has a loyal number of Friesch Dagblad readers. The Friesch Dagblad (FD) is the only independent, Christian, regional newspaper in the Netherlands. Its mission is: to contribute to increasing humanity in society through various channels. In 2013, the Friesch Dagblad was transferred to the NDC, for the time being with an independent FD editorial team.

Narrowcasting

More and more companies are installing their own closed news system in their business. Via narrowcasting they can show their own advertisements and news items to customers via screens. The screens are located in supermarkets and various catering establishments.

A narrowcasting system has been installed on the Wagenborg ferries (WPD TV) that shows news about the ferry service and the ferry. Events also take place on Ameland. In addition, you can read short general and Ameland news.

Nieuwsblad Noordoost Friesland

Nieuwsblad Noordoost Friesland has an editorial office in Dokkum. The magazine was previously called De Eilanden, because a lot was written about Ameland and Schiermonnikoog. Nowadays and after mergers between the Dockumer Courant and other regional magazines, the newspaper focuses on the region of Northeast Friesland. Het Nieuwsblad is published twice a week and is part of the NDC.

Omrop Fryslân is the regional TV and radio broadcaster of Friesland. The Omrop broadcasts daily on radio and television and regularly comes to the island to cover a subject. The editorial staff of Omrop is based in Leeuwarden. The Omrop is also active on social media.

Ameland Press Agency settled on the Wadden Island in 2004. On Video

Video Ameland settled on Ameland in 2009. Yehudi Arnold is the driving force behind the audiovisual production company. Together with Persbureau Ameland, Video Ameland provided video news items under the name Ameland Journaal and Ameland Live . In 2014, Arnold moved to the mainland and has since called his company OpVideo. OpVideo and Persbureau Ameland provided a monthly video report of the work on the wadden dike, which lasted from the beginning of 2015 to mid-2018. There are now more companies on the island that include making corporate videos in their package.

Amelander Historie is a platform with historical articles, old photos, books and genealogical data about Ameland. The website wants to make Amelander’s past accessible to a wide audience. The platform was founded on October 16, 2012 and has grown into a meeting place for readers interested in the history of Ameland.
