Forget foam parties, nowadays we go one step further in the disco. If you want to fit in as a club, you can organize a paint party. The owners of De Treemter in the Frisian town of Grouw understand this well. On March 31, 2013, they were the first discotheque in the Netherlands to organize a UV paint party.
Concept
Paint parties have been popular in the United States for some time. Recently, this concept has also caught on in Europe. Two entrepreneurs from Leeuwarden are marketing the concept in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. Their company PaintGlow can be hired to provide paint parties at festivals, concerts or simply at the local nightclub.
Paint
The name paint party says it all; this concerns paint. And a very special paint, because this paint glows in black light, which creates the glow. The idea is that visitors to the party are pelted with paint in as many fluorescent colors as possible. The paint is water-based and is washable, provided that clothing is washed immediately after the party. In addition, the paint is biodegradable, so it is not harmful to the environment.

To throw a painting party, the employees of the PaintGlow company can be hired. From the stage they provide a show full of visual effects. The public is fired upon using cannons and even paint bazookas. After about three hours, the entire disco is covered with a thick layer of luminous paint. The public also has the opportunity to get started with paint. The special paint is also for sale during the party.
Tips for guests
- Don’t wear expensive clothes. Although the paint is washable, there are no guarantees that clothing will emerge completely spotless.
- Wear white clothes. Because black light is used during the show and the paint is also luminous, you get the best effect on white clothing. Moreover, it is more fun if everyone comes in white, like-mindedness increases the festive spirit.
- Buy paint at the bar during the party. Isn’t it great when you can legitimately smear paint on all your friends?
- Would you rather not get too dirty? During the party there are also thin white overalls with a hood and protective glasses for sale, so you can still withstand the mess to some extent.
Tips for operators
- To prevent electronic equipment from being damaged, it is wise to wrap it in plastic beforehand. It is also best to mask off sockets and the like in advance.
- The paint makes the dance floor very slippery. It is therefore wise to cover it in advance with old carpet. This prevents accidents, but it also makes cleaning afterwards easier.
- Party over? Then it’s time to clean. The paint is easiest to remove if you don’t wait too long after the last partygoers have left.
- Check at the door whether guests bring their own paint. If this is the case, there are no guarantees that the paint will be washable, furthermore, this paint will not be biodegradable and this could be detrimental to the well-being of guests.
