The Achterstevoren Foundation conquers hearts

Two girls see the film ‘Eighth graders don’t cry’ and are inspired to organize something for seriously ill children. Sofie and Emma started the Achterstevoren Foundation in 2012. The foundation does its best to make the wishes of seriously ill children come true. The two sisters are actively working for the foundation.

Sofie and Emma from the Achterstevoren Foundation

When Sofie and Emma were 10 and 8 years old, in 2012, the sisters saw the film Eighth Groupers Don’t Cry, based on a book by Jacques Vriens in which a girl from group eight becomes seriously ill and the class organizes something special for her. It inspired both girls to also organize something for seriously ill children. They started their own campaign and more and more companies and institutions supported the initiative.

Team

Sofie and Emma don’t do it alone. Every day they conquer hearts with Achterstevoren, together with a team of professionals from the medical field and organizers. They volunteer and make the wishes of sick children aged 4 to 12 come true.
The sisters are involved in every action and carry out almost all wishes themselves. The contact between the sick children and the two girls is central. It is precisely the fact that it is children who make children’s wishes come true that makes the actions extraordinary. The contact provides many special moments. All employees at the Achterstevoren Foundation do their work on a voluntary basis.

Magic team

The Achterstevoren Foundation can always use volunteers. The volunteers form magic teams that put a smile on the face of a sick child. The activities consist of:

  • Recruiting donors;
  • answering letters;
  • organizing wishes;
  • different role.

Backwards wins hearts

Stichting Achterstevoren is a word that fits children and the age of the children in the target group. The word contains eight, which refers to the film Eighth graders don’t cry . In the previous part of Achterstevooren you can reverse the letters e and o and then you get the word magic.
Backwards also means the other way around. During wish fulfillment, tears are transformed into laughter, which makes the child who is feeling ill happy for a moment.

Gift

Achtertevooren organizes gift promotions, among other things, where children in hospitals receive a gift from Emma or Sofie. Sponsors can sponsor a gift for 25 euros.

Donations

The foundation runs on donations, which are entirely used for sick children. Every donation goes where it can be used best: giving a sick child an unforgettable experience. Thanks to the donations, the Achterstevoren Foundation can do a little magic
