In October 2013, Net5 started the dating program ‘Island Guests in Search of Love,’ in which islanders hope to find a life partner through the program. A single man from all four Frisian Wadden Islands is participating. The reality show is a success on television: many viewers are glued to the TV to see how the nice island men are doing. There are many women who would like to live on a Wadden Island, especially if it includes such a nice islander. They register and participate in the reality show.
Wadden Islands
The Wadden Islands are hot on television. In 2013, the KRO started a series of Islanders, in which islanders who sail on the ferry to their island or to the mainland are asked about the reason for their trip. Sophie van den Enk talks to the islanders and island guests and engages in funny, moving and heartbreaking conversations. Eilanders will be on television in January 2013. In the same month, SBS6 launched the program De Speld in een Hooiberg.
Dating program Island guests looking for love
A series about islanders looking for a love partner will start on Net5 in March 2013. The new dating program is called: Island Guests in Search of Love. Net5 has met four single islanders, men who live and work on one of the Wadden Islands and want to continue living there. They are just looking for a buddy.
Wedding on the island
Women who want to compete for a wedding on one of the islands must be prepared to build their lives at the side of the islander man. They must want to move to the island, because one thing is clear: the men want a woman, as long as she wants to live on the island with him.
Love pond
“You better live there! On Vlieland, Schiermonnikoog, Terschelling or Ameland ,” says Net5. “Whoever is born there usually doesn’t want to leave. There is also a lot to be said for staying: beauty, tranquility and nature… But of course there are also a few disadvantages. The pool of love to fish in is not that big and just find someone on shore who wants to take the step and settle on an island.”
Single man on an island
A single man has been found on each of the Frisian Wadden Islands who wants to participate in the program. The men could not make their choice from the pool of women on the island. They also found no woman living outside the island. During the series it gradually becomes clear whether the search using Net5 and the help of the medium of television will be successful. The islands are presented as romantic places with picturesque villages, deserted beaches and waving marram grass.
Four
The four single men come from:
- Vlieland;
- Terschelling;
- Ameland;
- Schiermonnikoog.
Vlieland
Aant-Durk lives on Vlieland. He is 31 years old in 2013, guide and fisherman. Aant-Durk is a curly blonde who is known throughout the island.
Terschelling
Roy van Terschelling is also 31 years old. He organizes tours, is sociable and homely. Roy is originally from Sneek and has been on the island for many years now.

Ameland
Johnny from Ameland is 39 years old. He works in the family business, together with his parents and sister. Johnny cooks, loves sports and is musical. He plays in a band.
Schiermonnikoog
Sebastiaan lives on Schier and is also 31 years old. He was not born on the island, but he was raised there. Sebastiaan is a chef by profession and he likes to play football.
Women
Women who liked one of these men and who also wanted to live on one of the islands could respond via the Net5 website. In addition to your personal data, you could use a registration form to provide information about your motivation for which man.
Net5 asked:
- a picture;
- whether you have children;
- your relationship history;
- whether you have ever been to a Wadden Island;
- what your island feeling is;
- why you think you can settle on the island;
- which bachelor you are signing up for;
- why he should choose you;

Drain
The recordings took place in January and February 2013 and the broadcasts were broadcast on television in October 2013. During the recordings, no announcements were allowed about the women and who had to go home and who could stay. The outcome of the elimination race and who remained as favorite woman were not allowed to leak in advance. Island guests in search of love was on television weekly from Monday 7 October 2013 in 8 episodes.
