Carnival breaks out every year, especially in the south of the country. During carnival it is a tradition to dress up. But how do you dress up? And how can you also dress up in a somewhat original way? This article provides tips on how to dress up in original costumes during carnival.
Dressing up for carnival?
The originally Catholic festival of Carnival is mainly celebrated in the (traditionally) Catholic parts of the Netherlands. This includes North Brabant and Limburg, but also parts of Gelderland, Zeeland, Overijssel and Drenthe. Carnival takes place on a different date every year. During carnival it is normal to dress up or dress up. Of course, the trick is to dress up in original costumes for carnival. By adding all kinds of attributes to the outfit you can give your outfit an extra dimension. It is possible to combine styles endlessly. Another advantage of making your own carnival outfit is that it is often much cheaper than buying a ready-made carnival suit, which is unfortunately often very expensive.
Dress up as a group
It is also fun to choose a theme together with your husband, wife, friends or girlfriends. This allows you to coordinate each other’s outfits or the outfits function together as one whole. It often looks very original and you radiate that you are a unity.

It is of course not a must to dress up in original costumes for carnival. A ‘normal’ outfit is also fine.
