Pedagogy: the Educational School?

The new learning has given rise to an enormous change in the pedagogical or educational task and responsibilities of the family and school.

Changes

Where the educational task used to lie mainly with the family, in recent years it has increasingly shifted to education. Schools have tackled this task with eagerness and switched en masse to the new learning where independence in setting goals and working out tasks play a major role. What is underestimated is that a large part of the implementation of these tasks is no longer done at school but at home. Where parents used to occasionally step in to help their children with homework or assignments, this is now happening more and more. As a result, the school tasks fall on the parents and the educational task falls on the schools or education. The question remains whether this is a good development.

Traditionally, the family has the task of preparing the child for school in a proper manner and from an early age. Children must be equipped to participate in play in a larger group, with other peers. This requires a gradual maturing process.

Nowadays we see that very young children end up in childcare, then the playgroup and finally school. Due to the introduction of the community school, children go to school from a young age and spend many more hours there than was previously the case. The teacher, teacher or otherwise receives the branch that is actually intended for the mother or father. Getting the child ready for school.

The role of government

Our government participates in this by pledging a lot of government money and making community school mandatory. This is to give mothers the opportunity to go out to work, but our government also believes that this is a way to preventively combat the educational disadvantage among immigrant children and other social risk groups.
Researchers really point out the dangers of preschool care as a maturation process during the actual school years. Items such as attachment come to the fore in this debate. It also points out the government’s laxer-fair attitude when it comes to imposing programs and learning objectives. After all, the past has shown that the simple fact of mixing disadvantaged children with non-disadvantaged children does not automatically lead to an average child.

The task of the teacher

The teacher at school must ensure that the environment and the student allow them to learn well. The student must have a certain degree of well-being at school if he/she is to meet the benchmark performance standards. Just think about bullying and being bullied. This level of well-being is necessary not only to succeed in the task assigned to them, but also because school time is becoming more and more extended, resulting in children spending more time at school than at home.
A number of teachers are not happy with these changes and rely on the knowledge transfer function of the school. The educational task must be permanently anchored in the family.

The results of all this are gradually becoming visible, a fierce discussion has erupted in education in all its sections. Parents complain about education and teachers complain about parents.
Teachers believe that parents are neglecting their educational role. Children are left too free, there is no longer a transmission of norms in families, regulations and the setting and monitoring of boundaries are no longer initiated by the parents.

Parents, in turn, believe that the teacher should be more of a pedagogue than a transmitter of knowledge. The school must transfer the norms and values of society to the child and in this way ensure a future place in society. They also believe that schools should be equal partners in the education of the children. As a result, knowledge transfer takes second place in the school.

Conclusion

From the entire debate, the changes that have taken place at an incredible speed in education, the foundation of the community school and the remote management of the government, we can conclude that:

  • The educational task has partly shifted from family to school. The teaching staff is unable to fulfill this educational task, despite the fact that parents would like to see this happen.
  • A confusion arises as to who is responsible for the educational task. It is up to the government to quickly clarify whether schools are pedagogical institutes in the literal sense of the word, where transferring knowledge and skills is less important than educating, or whether the primary task of the school remains knowledge transfer. In the second case, preventive measures will have to be taken to guarantee the “transmission of norms and values”.
