Nicolas Roldan is a professional American polo player and fashion model and captain of the US polo team. At fifteen, he was the youngest polo player to win the US Open with his team. Nicolas (Nic) Roldan was born on December 4, 1982 in Buenos Aires (Argentina), he is an American national. Roldan was raised to play polo, his father Paul Roldan and his grandfather both played polo. Nicolas Roldan grew up in Wellington, Florida, and graduated from Cardinal Newman High School in West Palm Beach, also in Florida. Polo
Polo is a ball sport played on horseback, in which one tries to shoot a white wooden or plastic ball or an orange rubber ball into the opponent’s goal using a ,mallet, (polo stick). It is said to be one of the oldest known team sports in the world.
Polo is played by two teams, each team having four field players. Two of the players have an attacking role, one is both attacking and defensive and there is a player whose job is to guard the goal, as the game is played without a goalkeeper. The duration of a polo match is expressed in chukka (a total of four times seven minutes) and the level of the players is indicated by a handicap that can vary from -2 to 10, with 10 being the highest that can be achieved. Because a lot is required of the animals, every polo player needs several horses per match.
Argentina and England are the countries where the good polo horses come from. Queen Maxima also comes from a family of enthusiastic polo players . Famous polo players are Princes William, Harry and, in the past, their father Charles.
Polo in the Netherlands
Polo is not very popular in the Netherlands and in 2020 it is played by around ninety people representing four different polo clubs. The polo clubs in the Netherlands are:
