Horror or wonderful (re)tension

What scares one person, another finds it wonderful tension or even becomes obsessed. So many people, so many different expressions. Yet there are a number of situations, as well as animals, that evoke these changing moods in people. Sometimes sad, sometimes laughable and sometimes terrifying… but all human emotions that one can no longer control in a certain situation.

Emotions

We can describe emotions as a response to our brain (what does the brain perceive). We call it a feeling because we feel it in the gut. However, emotions are evoked from the brain (e.g. an association with something from the past) and are expressed by making the body react. Certain behavior in combination with the physiological response occurs in humans and animals. Think about fleeing when danger threatens.

You either have it or you don’t

Emotions are partly innate and partly formed over the years. Some emotions are simply stronger in some people than in others from childhood. Others have crept in over time. Where you are not born with a fear of animals, a fearful experience at a young age can make you fearful of that particular animal for life. There is also another possibility to go along with someone else’s fears. Someone who is afraid of something and expresses this often enough, or you even feel his/her fear. It can all affect you.

Sometimes you recognize it in someone and sometimes someone can do their utmost to suppress the emotion for you. As a human, you do not perceive a changing smell due to emotion (e.g. fear), but an animal does. Face to face with a huge dog (which you are afraid will attack you), a poker face for the dog will not change.

Furthermore, there is another possibility to consciously evoke a certain emotion. Think of the men and women on stage. If one has to play a sad or fearful scene, there is a possibility to evoke that sadness or fear by thinking of a moment from one’s own life.

What are the big differences?

The list is enormous, but we will pick out some that are very common and where the differences in emotion can be enormous.

The fascinating animal kingdom

With animals, the difference in emotion when one sees a particular animal is enormous. While one person views the spider as a fascinating and beautiful animal with an ingenious way of getting food, another will be horrified at the sight of the spider. Where a small dust spider is sometimes enough to send shivers down people’s spines or scare them away. The snake has this same effect on man. One person finds the snake beautiful, powerful and fascinating and the other does not know how quickly it should move away when a snake is nearby. Some people even shudder at a snake behind glass in the zoo.

The little mouse also evokes very different reactions and it is not so much that people think the mouse is a beautiful animal, the dexterity of the animal commands respect from a certain group of people, moreover, they are real survivors and that also makes people understand the total picture. will find it attractive again. It goes without saying that it is precisely the dexterity of the animal that drives some people back into the fold.

Moreover, the diversity in how people look at the animals with awe or are shocked by the animals is very great. One can go too far in behavior and become obsessed in both directions.

Does being beautiful precede pain?

This is the case for a growing group of people. Because we have needles stuck in our bodies because we think it will make us more beautiful. The materials that are injected under the skin or the roller with needles over the face. But also the needle bed that you can lie on. It is good for blood circulation, but it is painful. Painful can then be classified into different degrees, because not everyone will experience it as really painful. In addition, the mental process plays a role here in a different way, because if you shift focus and convince yourself that such a bed of nails does not hurt, this will indeed change the outcome (pain). Some studies have been done that confirm this.

It goes without saying that there is also a group of people who are afraid of needles and who collapse or become at least light-headed at the sight of a needle, before it even enters the body.

Then you have the fish that make the feet and hands beautiful again. Put your hands and feet in a container with Garra Ruf a fish and your skin will become like a baby’s skin again. For some it is a tingling sensation, for others it feels good (not really painful), but there are also people who are afraid to put their hands and feet in the water with the fish. Delusions that it’s the piranha swimming in the water or something?

Dark, darker, darkest

People are visual and want to be able to see something so they can anticipate it. At least that’s what people think. But when it is dark you have to use your other senses, something we are not really used to. Stay close to yourself and sharpen your ears to pick up the smallest sound, brace your hands to feel and let your eyes get used to the darkness and look for light. Not everyone is able to do this or manages to concentrate in such a way that the other senses take over from the eyes. Rising fear of the unknown or the fact that you have lost control at that moment can be a serious obstacle to using your other senses.

Finally

In extreme cases, a therapist can be deployed, because that can block a normal life. But other than that, you can live with mild anxiety, for example. It’s fascinating how different people react differently.
