Dolce&Gabbana, the origins of
Domenico Dolce and Stafano Gabbana met in 1980, when they both worked as assistant fashion designers at the same studio. In 1982 they began working together and in 1985 they adopted their surnames as brand names and began designing and marketing clothes. In 1986, their Dolce & Gabbana designs made a breakthrough during a fashion show, which made them instantly famous. Their clothing designs are based on Sicily’s traditional view of feminine beauty and fashion.

The top brand Dolce&Cabbana is world famous. Many stars use their beautiful designs. Madonna, Brad Pitt and Beyonce, to name just a few, are regularly spotted wearing Dolce&Gabbana clothing. Dolce and Gabbana also designed clothes for Gisele Bündchen, Eros Ramazzotti and Kylie Minogue. Dolce&Gabbana has also launched bags, hats, sunglasses, jewelry, shoes and underwear for men and women. The fashion designers also produced perfumes for both women and men and the brand introduced make-up. The company’s turnover is somewhere around 750 million euros per year. Despite their continued success, multimillionaires Dolce and Gabbana were each separately convicted of tax evasion in 2013. They were each sentenced to prison and the Dolce&Gabbana company was fined 343 million euros. However, they claimed to be innocent and continued to litigate. In 2014 they got justice on their side. The judge decided that the men did not have to go to prison.
D&G and Dolce&Gabbana and D&G Junior
Dolce&Gabbana has several clothing lines.
- D&G was the ‘affordable’ version of Dolce&Gabbana and focused more on ‘casual’ clothing and casual items. D&G is generally (also) affordable for people with a smaller budget. However, D&G was officially dissolved in March 2011, while the Dolce&Gabbana brand name continued to exist.
