Organize a reunion

Organizing a reunion can take some time, but it can be a lot of fun, what can people still remember and what can they laugh about? Good and bad memories can be discussed and one can see how much everyone has changed. Sometimes someone’s life turned out completely differently than everyone expected.

What is a reunion?

A reunion is, as it were, getting together again with old acquaintances. The dictionary also describes the word reunion as ,a gathering of people who used to form a group., For example, a reunion can be held with:

  • old classmates
  • former colleagues
  • members of a sports club
  • family

Time and date

Try to determine a number of dates and times before contacting people. This way you can immediately ask which day would suit you best. Limit it to 2 to 3 days and then choose the day when most people can come. Don’t let the day last too long, it can be super fun, but it can also feel awkward if it lasts too long after not seeing each other for so long. This will probably result in further contacts with whom you can meet again later.

How do you find people?

If the association or school still exists, you may want to check whether the names are still known there. You probably also remember a few names, many people nowadays have an internet profile, which makes them quite easy to find. You can also let them search for others through the people you still know or can find, perhaps they are also still in contact. Another option is to place advertisements in, for example:

  • the newspaper
  • on the Web
  • Magazines

Do not mention names here, but for example the name of the school, association or family and the year or group you were in at the time. Don’t forget that people need to be able to contact you, so include your address or telephone number in the advertisement.

What are you going to do?

Try to take something that is generally popular, for example don’t go karting or paintball, this can put people off and they may not want to come. It is often difficult enough to choose suitable clothing, so make sure people don’t have to get dirty or do anything active. If you would like this, please indicate this clearly in advance. Choose something where people can talk but where it is not mandatory, for example bowling is a good option or organize a walking buffet at someone’s home or at the school or club. This way, old memories come back, you can easily walk back and forth so that you can talk to everyone and there are no dead silences.

Cost

If you can go to someone’s house, school or club building for free and you want to organize a running buffet, you can also propose that everyone brings something. This way, a reunion doesn’t have to cost almost any money. If there are costs involved, please report this immediately so that people are not surprised. In the summer, a picnic in a park or forest can provide a solution. The location is free, the atmosphere is relaxed and no one has to cook extensively.
