One step behind or before

If you can analyze and respond to your own work, you can also do this for higher ups. You can prepare in advance for the questions you expect and the workload that will come. Anyone who is involved in all kinds of different matters in their daily life regularly comes into contact with aspects that he or she had already expected or that he or she still sees coming. You are then, as it were, predicting the future. Ultimately you follow your own feelings. Because you respond best to this.

Current situation

When you start from your own work: you have your own set of tasks for which you are responsible. When you think logically and analyze your own work, you are more likely to see the differences, the points and parts that need attention. Questions may arise from higher up about these differences and points of interest. By acting assertively you can conduct research and present results at an early stage. After all, you are the one who has direct insight into your own work and you have therefore already anticipated a number of questions related to it. This way you are prepared for the workload that is to come, and you can set your own schedule accordingly.

Practical example

A work planner/project leader for planned maintenance about his experiences in practice: as a work planner for planned maintenance of homes and residential buildings, I have created an overview for myself through plans and divided everything into categories. With this I have created my own kind of database. From this database I started my own work as a work planner/project leader. I then looked at my own work and assessed it from my manager’s point of view. As a work planner/project leader, I can ask myself the question: What if I were my own manager, what data would I like to see presented? As a work planner/project leader, I want to present data that can be delivered quickly and easily from my own database. My manager actually only wants management information, because that is partly what the organization is guided by, based on current affairs. As a work planner/project leader, I can collect management information that is easy for me to process and present.

From above

If you are asked by higher authorities to provide certain management information, you will often receive a question that will cause you a lot of work. Because you have already done a lot of preliminary work, you can often skip many of the questions from higher up, because you have set up a better (management) information system.

Consequence

These actions save you a lot of work, you have an overview and you are fully informed of the state of affairs. The organization you work for will receive even more and better information than initially requested. Tactically speaking, you are then ahead of the organization. To maintain clarity and a systematic way of working, others must follow suit and use the same working method.

Requirements

The organization must know exactly what is going on on the work floor: every manager must also be able to participate in production and also have a helicopter view of the entire organization and not just of their own department. Managers must have confidence in their own staff.

Cons

If it turns out afterwards that there are errors in your proposal, you will be drawn to this, both by higher management and by your colleagues. After all, as an employee you have your own set of tasks for which you are responsible.

This way you make yourself vulnerable. You give colleagues and managers insight into the whole. This could be abused by both fellow employees and the employer. But as an employee you must assume that there is a good relationship of trust. If the relationship of trust is not present, it is better for you as an employee to look for another job.

Advantages

The disadvantage of being alerted to any mistakes you may have is also an advantage. In this case you can adjust and improve yourself.

You stuck your neck out to ultimately benefit yourself. my view on
