When a baby is born, the maternity visit soon follows. This often represents a debacle, what do we take with us? Clothes are often brought along for the youngster, preferably in the smallest size. But babies grow quickly and sometimes not even all the gifts can be tried on before the baby has grown out of it. And cuddly toys, no matter how nice, a child will not easily run out of them. But what are nice alternatives?
A maternity basket
Although many online stores have focused on the maternity basket phenomenon, I prefer to make one myself. Parents are often provided with a starting supply of baby care products, but these quickly run out. By putting a number of these baby care products in a basket (you may still have one, but you could also look at Xenos, for example), possibly combined with a rattle, a rubber duck, teething ring, washcloth or another small item, you get quickly a useful gift with which you can delight many parents.
Diaper cake
Roll a number of diapers in a small size per diaper tightly into a roll, how many diapers you need depends on the size of the cake you want to make. Tie each roll securely with a ribbon, if you are traditional you can always go for pink or blue. Then place the rolls next to each other until they form a circle and also provide this whole with a sturdy ribbon to keep it together. You can add a small gift to the top of the cake to brighten it up, for example nice baby shoes, bath toys or a rattle. If you want to make it extra festive, you can wrap it all in transparent cellophane. If you don’t have the time or desire to get creative, such cakes can also be ordered ready-made via the internet.
Bath cape / shawl
Many parents purchase the standard outlay set that is recommended for a child, especially if the baby in question is the first. These lists are of course sufficient, but you soon discover that you should have bought more of a number of things than the indicated quantity, such as a bath cape (towel with a hood), which is often more practical to use than the other prescribed drying agents. You can therefore take these with confidence as a maternity gift, they are in different price ranges. If you want to make it even more special, it is possible to purchase bath capes via the Internet that are embroidered with the child’s name on it.
Gift voucher
Although perhaps less fun to give, a gift voucher from a baby store will ultimately be very popular with young parents. They probably already have all the supplies for a young baby at home, but before they know it, new supplies will be needed for the growing child. Car seats, bicycle seats, or a walking chair, they can all be purchased at your own discretion.
Children’s tableware
Children’s tableware is also often not purchased immediately by parents. So it can be nice to purchase a feeding set for the baby. You can also have this provided with a name and possibly date of birth. There are various online stores on the internet that sell various models.
Children’s cutlery
A very traditional gift that unfortunately seems to have gone out of fashion. Very nice cutlery sets are available at almost all jewelers in different price ranges. If you wish, you can also have this engraved with your name and date of birth. It is not only a practical gift but also beautiful and a useful keepsake for years to come.
Money box or rattle
Staying with the jeweler for a moment, they usually also have a range of affordable silver-plated piggy banks and rattles. Also attributes that can be used but also form a souvenir that does not look out of place.
An old-fashioned music box
This also appears to be a less given gift since the introduction of all electronic baby entertainers. However, babies can still enjoy the soft sounds of a music box. They are available for a reasonable price in all shapes, sizes and designs so that the baby can also look forward to seeing them. If you do not know a store in your area that sells these music boxes, you can use one of the many online stores.
Hand/Footprint storage boxes
You can get boxes that are specially made to make a hand or footprint of the baby so that you can save it for later. Since parents often have other baby concerns and do not think about them, it is a special gift to give away.
Baby shoes
Although the first shoes will often be purchased before birth, this is much less often the case with slippers, but they are still very handy and useful. The slippers are available in various designs so that you can always find a pair that meets the wishes of the parents.
