gangam style

The South Korean rapper PSY caused a sensation in August 2012 with the YouTube video Gangnam Style. The special dance, which resembles a rider on a horse, attracted no fewer than 900 million visitors. This makes the dance at least as popular as, for example, the Macarena.

Fifty Shades of grey

The literary hype of 2012 can be called the trilogy ,Fifty Shades of Grey, by writer EL James. From a literary point of view, the books do not appear to be of high quality, but women have fallen en masse for the novels laced with explicit sex. There even appear to be plans to adapt the books into films. The hype could therefore grow into a trend. The books are a welcome topic of conversation at parties.

Anyone who thought that the flow of talent shows would come to an end in the meantime was wrong. Concepts are being devised again and again for new talent shows. Years ago it was limited to singing, but now you can showcase the most diverse talents. Dancing, skating, magic, diving or any other talent, there are now talent shows for everything. The path to talent is also becoming increasingly accessible. Simply making a video where you show your talent and posting it on social media can pave the way to talent for you.

With the enormous rise of social media, more and more people are sharing their social lives with others via sites such as Facebook, Linkedin, Hyves and YouTube. Many photos are shared on these sites. Women in particular want to look sexy in photos. Pursing their lips enhances their cheekbones. This is called a duck face. It has become a hype to show yourself with a duck face on social media. Not everyone agrees that this is so sexy! Yet there are many well-known celebrities who immortalize themselves on social media with a duck face. People like Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez and Lisa Rinna can be found on social media.

It is not without reason that Project-X-party has become ,word of the year 2012,. A girl from Haren in Groningen wanted to organize a private party for her 16th birthday and posted an invitation on Facebook. She had mistakenly made the announcement of her party public via events. She invited everyone with an account on Facebook. On September 28, 2012, the otherwise quiet town of Haren was flooded with people who had accepted the invitation. To make matters worse, riots broke out and destruction was caused.
