Is distinctiveness important?

It is indicated at all kinds of times to distinguish yourself, because then you stand out. Then you rise above the rest, as it were. Which is not always convenient, because the mower comes along again in various areas. All this does not alter the fact that we have slowly but surely been taught that we are not part of the crowd, but an individual. This then means that we sometimes frantically try to distinguish ourselves from others. In all kinds of areas, ranging from clothing and make-up to behavior or even work. Everything must be distinctive to profile yourself as different and therefore stand out. But is this really that important?

Everyone looking for their own identity?

We take courses and workshops to reveal our own identity, what are our personal USPs and Unique Selling Points. We try to translate that into selling ourselves. Besides the fact that it may be remarkable that as an adult you do not yet know where your distinctive character lies and what you may need to emphasize, the question is whether this actually adds something to the person (or whether this can possibly be translated back to the company). ).

The self-esteem

But the individual has been of paramount importance for years, and is becoming increasingly important in this individualistic society, and so it is necessary not to merge into the gray mass. However, when you pose the question, it is all about being seen. The next question is to what extent do you have sufficient self-esteem that your sales value is sufficient, even without extra emphasis?

Given the many activities in this context, our self-esteem is generally not good enough. Being who you are, with the qualities that go with it, is important. This is an acceptance process that starts in the cradle. There may not have been any emphasis in the past and accepting yourself and loving yourself has been pushed to the background. After all, it is not automatic for many to love themselves, to accept who you are and to know where the qualities lie and therefore the distinctive character.

Everybody is different

Although in life you always continue to learn and develop, this does not alter the fact that everyone is indeed different and we are all part of the crowd. After all, we are a social species and that means we want to belong somewhere. This combination means that one person largely blends in with the crowd and the other does not. Sometimes the distinctiveness can be a needle in a haystack and sometimes it is obvious. But we are all different.

For people who want to express their distinctive character, it is important that these USPs come to the surface. It can only be annoying if your qualities lie in being efficient, you keep your appointments, you are punctual, etc. Because that is more people and also if you want to translate it into work. But translate these things into being reliable and although it sounds stuffy, you do have a quality that not everyone has and one that is important to many.

The importance

Then the irrevocable next question is to what extent it is important that everyone brings out his/her distinctive character (if this is not already the case). If you, as a human being and/or as an entrepreneur, know how to create the right people/customers around you, then it is clear what you stand for. Whether you have specifically mentioned it before or not. It is often also an unconscious process that you go through as a person.

Finally

It is therefore up to everyone to determine whether distinctiveness is so important and whether you want to emphasize it in some way or not. If you want to get started with it (privately or at work), guidance from a good party is important. This way the process can proceed quickly and effectively.
