The role of regional TV

Regional TV is still often portrayed as “less” than national TV. While regional TV has a clear role and presents adult programs.

Added value

Programs that are copied one-on-one from national TV will quickly be seen as a weak copy of these national programs. Budgets are generally not comparable.
These types of programs are still there, but add little to the overall picture of TV in the Netherlands. Fortunately, regional broadcasters are increasingly able to create their own regional image.
The unique image that is created has to do with the regional aspects, of course, but also the program makers who can portray the regional character in a program (and therefore not just show the images).

What is that regional image on TV

The programs are definitely worth watching. Unfortunately, the advertiser has not yet found this TV in all regions and the budgets for the various programs cannot be supplemented with commercial money.

News programs

The news programs have been around for a long time and of course provide regional news. It is striking that the professionalism of the program makers of these types of programs varies greatly in different regions.

Programs in the relevant dialect

For example, TV Gelderland has brought a new soap opera in dialect to the screen and broadcaster Brabant repeated the Merijntje Gijsen broadcast on national TV.

Historical programs from the region

Various regional TV channels have dedicated at least half an hour a week to historical places in the region. The nice thing about these types of programs is that they do not show the most popular places, because these are already highlighted in national TV programs, but smaller-scale aspects that may have been of great historical value in the region.

Regional activities and sights from the region

Presenting the activities calendar every week contributes to regional development. For some activities, TV images are then recorded and returned to a program a week later.
Of course, they also want to reach visitors from other regions, but many do not know what there is to do in their own region and are purely focused on nationally known activities. Combine this with only national radio and newspapers and see what is passing you by in the region.

Regional police investigation program

The national version on AVRO also focuses on the area where the incident took place. The only difference is that they call for help from incidents from all regions.

Nice programs! Take the time to follow the regional TV.
