LC and DvhN

The Leeuwarder Courant and Dagblad van het Noorden are the largest regional newspapers under the NDC flag. They know their readers and region and connect to regional events.

The Weekly

The NDC publishes a large number of weeklies and door-to-door newspapers under the collective name Het Weekblad. Almost the entire region receives the door-to-door newspapers. The regional coverage is 84%.

Noorderland

Noorderland is a lifestyle magazine focused on the north.
Ambition is the job magazine of the ambitious region.

Radio

NDC media group maintains radio stations and websites. All NDC products together ensure that the news penetrates into the capillaries of northern society.

Friese Pers Boekerij and Noordboek

Friese Pers Boekerij and Noordboek are together the largest publisher of books in the Northern Netherlands. The publishing house is part of NDC media group.

Sold to Oranjewoud, Je Maintiendra and ING

In January 2013 it was announced that the NDC Media Group would be acquired by two non-profit foundations: FB Oranjewoud and Je Maintiendrai and the bank ING. The acquisition will be completed on February 3, 2013. The newspaper publisher from the north has been in the shop window since the beginning of 2012.
This makes the dismantling of the NDC/VBK holding company a fact. The holding company , which included the NDC Media Group, previously divested the book division VBK and the education branch Thieme. Parent company NDC/VBK had a debt of 180 million. After the crisis hit, it turned out to be impossible to pay off the debt. During a reorganization in 2013, 250 jobs disappeared.

Also sold

In May 2013, NDC Mediagroep sold the radio stations WaterstadFM and RadioNL. The publishing house of the media group, Friese Pers Boekerij/ Noordboek, Arie Krijgsman took over the publishing house at the end of 2013, but in June 2017 Krijgsman himself filed for bankruptcy. In mid-July 2017, Bornmeer took over the Friese Pers Boekerij.
Lifestyle magazine Noorderland was sold to Pijper Media in 2015.

Friesch Dagblad in NDC

On July 1, 2013, it was announced that the NDC Media Group had taken over the operation of the Friesch Dagblad. The newspaper was purchased for the symbolic one euro.

August 2014

As of September 2014, the NDC has a new director in Dina Boonstra (55). She succeeds Geert-Jan van der Snoek. Boonstra previously worked at publishing house Wegener and Noordhoff Uitgevers.

November 2014

A new reorganization is planned in November 2014. 20 FTEs will be canceled because departing employees will not be replaced and temporary contracts will not be extended. Probably between fifty and a hundred people will be laid off.
Income from subscriptions and advertisements continues to be disappointing and therefore cuts need to be made again. The main goal is that independent and high-quality regional journalism continues to exist.
On December 8, 2014, NDC director Dina Boonstra announced that a hundred employees would have to go. Of the hundred full-time jobs, almost half (48) come from the editors of the Leeuwarder Courant, Dagblad van het Noorden, the Friesch Dagblad and the editors of the door-to-door newspapers.
Job cuts are necessary because the company must repay a debt of 10 million to the ING in 2016 and another amount in 2018.

March 2015

The figures show that NDC made a loss of 1.5 million euros in 2014. In 2013, the company suffered a loss of 9.3 million on a turnover of 109 million euros. The company needs a profit of 10 million in 2015 to keep shareholder ING on friendly terms. To this end, a reorganization was initiated at the end of 2014, during which 105 full-time jobs were eliminated. Editors gave up their hours and this allowed the number to be adjusted downwards. The correspondents also give up their fees.

New NDC reorganization

In March 2019, the NDC decided to adjust the organization again. The biggest change is that the independently operating editors of the daily newspapers and the news and weekly magazines that are delivered door-to-door are merged. The operation has been given the name Stronger Together. The single editorial policy will officially come into effect on May 1, 2019. The NDC will work with one digital platform where all stories will end up. There will also be more unity in the layout of the various NDC newspapers.
The aim of the operation is to increase online reach, gain more subscribers, improve the quality of the stories and work more efficiently and cheaply. The reorganization is motivated by the declining number of subscribers and less advertising revenue. The operation will result in the elimination of positions, such as that of editorial coordinator of the news and weekly magazines, but there will be no forced redundancies.
