It can happen to anyone at any time. A lot of information or ambiguity confuses the brain and we can no longer figure it out. Education level, IQ, brain capacity and method of data analysis can have a major influence on this. One way is to break the problem into small sub-problems and solve it that way. Reason for the circumstance
Every day we are bombarded by information and data, obtained through the five human senses. That information must be converted in the brain into language that we understand, so that we can get a clear story out of it. Because the brain is also limited in effectively processing a lot of information, it can sometimes become too much for us. The information supply is too much, which causes us to have a blackout, as it were, to go crazy or to simply not be able to cope anymore. The abundance ensures that the system can no longer cope. An important factor in the whole is the power of our computer, or the brain.
Human brain capacity
It is sometimes claimed that the brain only uses 10 to 15 percent of its actual capacity to cope with everything. Yet it is a relative misconception. We can only process a certain amount of information at a time because we are limited in our thinking capacity. People with hydrocephalus have, so to speak, 90 percent water in their heads, but they use the remaining brain so effectively that they are just as smart. In itself, we have a lot of brain capacity in reserve, but we will not be able to use it completely due to our own limitations. To achieve this, humans will have to evolve further. What one can handle is also limited by the capabilities of the brain itself and what kind of IQ one has. What kinds of situations can cause problems?
It goes over the top
From home and through training, we gain a certain amount of knowledge and experience, with which we can process information to a certain level. So there is a relative maximum that we can handle. We may just be able to handle a step higher and so we sometimes continue to learn for that. But above this level it often becomes too complicated to keep an overview, or we can no longer handle it. The level of knowledge is too low, so we no longer know what needs to be done. The issues should therefore be carried out by someone with a higher level of education or someone who has more experience in the matter.
Huge amount of data
Lists of data and clarity can prevent people from seeing where things are going. The endless list of numbers and names can cause number vertigo. If one does not deal with data programs such as Excel and the like in a convenient, well-structured manner, the overview can quickly become lost. Due to the enormous amount, there is no end to it and no conclusions can be drawn. Without using data analysis programs, people keep going without achieving results.
Not being able to find a way out anymore
Some problems can have such major consequences that they are practically beyond your own responsibility. Within disciplines, incorrect decisions or advice can be financially, legally or constructively disastrous. An error of judgment or wrong assumptions have been made. One is responsible for the situation that has arisen and cannot make things right. Panic can strike, making things impossible to comprehend.
Methods to tackle it
The value of the parts is always more than the whole. By understanding parts of a system or process, one learns about the whole. Insight into what a piece does provides more clarity about what is going on and what the end goal is. If there is a situation or question to which you do not yet know the answer, you can chop the problem into pieces. Through step-by-step analysis, one can work towards the solution in an increasingly targeted manner. This is often applied to large construction projects that last years. By applying project management, the construction process is divided into parts, so that a practical plan is devised on that basis. Tackle confusing problems in a systematically structured manner, so that you can deal with them in an understandable way.
