Organizing a clown party at home for a five-year-old

A children’s party doesn’t have to cost a lot of money. Especially for young children, it is not necessary to look for activities outside the home. Have fun at home. Simple means and a dose of attention can go a long way. You are sure to be successful with the clown party for a five-year-old described here.

Good preparation is half the job

Before you start having a party, decide:

  • the date and time;
  • how many children you invite;
  • how any transport of the children will be arranged.

Duration of the party and the number of guests

For young children, the party doesn’t have to last hours. For a five-year-old child, a game that lasts about three hours is long enough. It is also not necessary to invite the entire class. It must remain pleasant. For a five-year-old you could assume five guests.

Invitations

Buy or make invitation cards that match the theme of the party, in this case clowns. On the invitation you clearly state where and when the party will be held and how long it will last. Ask whether a modified diet should be taken into account. and if so, whether parents would like to inform you of this in a timely manner. Please indicate clearly whether you will bring the children home or not. Make sure that the invitations reach their destination on time. Assume at least a week before the party.

Required :
Invitation cards or paper, etc. to make your own cards .

Script

It is useful to draw up a script for yourself. This outlines what you will do, when you will do it and approximately how long the various activities will take. You also indicate which materials or attributes you need. Alternate busy games with quiet activities, this will improve the atmosphere.

Script for the clown party

2:00 PM – 2:30 PM reception and gifts

Reception of the guests with profiteroles and drinks. The guests hide the presents they brought with them. The birthday boy or girl can look for them. Afterwards, the birthday boy or girl can open the packages.

Needed :
Drinks (packages), profiteroles.

2:30 PM – 3:30 PM balloon game

Six balloons hang from a string. There is a note in each balloon. The note contains an assignment or a game.
The idea is that the children, one by one, pop a balloon with a lanyard. The assignment or game that appears is executed. The birthday boy or girl can start (if a child does not dare to pop a balloon , you can help).

Assignments and games :
We sing the song together: It’s someone’s birthday, hurray, hurray!

Red nose :
This game is a variation on the old donkey prick. Draw a clown head in advance on a blackboard or possibly on a piece of white paper that you hang on the wall. The player whose turn it is is given a blindfold, is turned around briefly and may then try to color the clown’s round nose red. Afterwards, give all the children a red nose (with face paint).

Hat dancing :
The birthday boy or girl is given a hat or cap. The music starts. In the meantime, the hat or cap moves to another child’s head. As long as the music plays, the hat is passed. When the music stops, the child wearing the hat is out. The winner gets to give everyone a party hat.

Memory game :
Before this game starts, place all kinds of objects on a tray and cover it with a kitchen towel. Now remove the cloth. The children can watch for a minute. Then cover the items again. With your hand you secretly remove one of the objects. Whoever guesses what is missing wins and can then remove something from under the cloth. You can repeat this a few more times. One of the objects is a ribbon bow. After the game, all children receive a large bow around their neck, made of crepe paper.

Guess what I am :
You discuss with the balloon picker what he/she is going to portray. The other children can guess what he/she is. The winner of the game can then act out.

You are the sunshine in the house :
The balloon picker can draw a sun on all the children’s cheeks.

The children are clowns

After all the assignments and games, the children have undergone a metamorphosis. They have become clowns themselves, because they have a red nose, sun on their cheeks (face paint), a party hat and a big bow on the front.

Required:
Scissors, string, balloons, pin, assignment notes, face paint, party hats, crepe paper, ribbon, stapler, blackboard, colored chalk or possibly a large sheet of white paper, thick colored markers, adhesive tape, CD player, CDs with (children’s) music, large handkerchief (blindfold), sun hat or cap, tray, ten objects including a bow, kitchen towel

3.30 pm time for a snack

Required :
Bag of chips, pack of drinks.

3:45 PM – 4:15 PM cake decorating

All children are given a head (circle) and body (rectangle) cut out of cake at the table. They can make a clown with icing, whipped cream, smarties, colored sprinkles, and other cake decorations (from the supermarket).

Needed :
Plastic tablecloth, paper plates, several cakes, whipped cream, icing (make in advance), cake decorations (supermarket), spoons, knives, napkins.

4.15pm – 4.45pm disco

Time for music and dancing in the clown disco;

Needed :
CD player, CDs.

4:45 PM – 5:00 PM grab bag

Children are often given a bag of candy or chips to take home after the children’s party. Instead, the children are allowed to grab something. You can easily make a grab bag yourself from a large cardboard box. Attach a large clown head made of colored cardboard to the top of the box. Attach the clown’s arms to the sides. A pair of large shoes are just visible at the bottom of the box. Fill the box with scraps of paper and small wrapped gifts.

Required :
Large cardboard box, wrapping paper, colored paper to cut out the clown, scissors, tape, markers, possibly a stapler, scraps of paper to fill the box, nice little gifts suitable for boys and girls.

Finally

See the script no more and no less than as a point of reference for yourself. Keep in mind what it’s all about, namely a successful party, not only for the guests, but especially for the birthday boy or girl!
