Wedding traditions and an original wedding

Your wedding should be one of the most beautiful days of your life. Of course you can celebrate your wedding like everyone else does, but you can also make it an extra special day. In every country there are different wedding traditions that are applied to almost every wedding. No matter how original you think you are, you often make use of one or more traditions. Some elements simply occur at every wedding. That’s fine of course, but then it’s fun to make something original out of it.

Wedding traditions

Every country has different wedding traditions. As we are used to celebrating a wedding, it does not happen everywhere. In the Netherlands, for example, wedding rings, a white dress and a bridal bouquet are real traditions that you see at every wedding. In our country, the bridal bouquet is thrown to the single ladies at the wedding. In Brazil they do it differently, there they throw a plush version of the traditional saint of the Catholic Church. At a wedding we often eat a piece of wedding cake. In the Czech Republic, however, the bride and groom eat noodle soup, because this is said to bring good luck. Customs differ per country.

In addition to the wedding cake, wedding dress and bridal bouquet, there are a number of components that actually appear at every Dutch wedding. Do you still want to distinguish yourself from the rest? Then it might be a nice idea to try to make something original out of this.

Wedding cards

An original wedding naturally starts with the wedding cards. You can send a standard card with all the information on it, but it can also be done differently. For example, make your card from a nice photo of yourself. This can be a photo of the proposal if you have one, but also another romantic photo. Some couples do an engagement photo shoot. This way they can get used to the photographer and it often results in nice photos that you can use for the wedding card, for example.

But of course you don’t necessarily have to use a photo for the wedding card. There are many more ways to let people know that you are getting married. For example, if you are getting married abroad, it is nice to make your invitation in the form of a passport. Or make a poster as an invitation to announce your wedding in a grand manner.

Rings

You can buy the perfect wedding ring at the jeweler, but it is of course much more fun and original to make your own wedding ring. In some places in the Netherlands it is possible for a couple to design and make your own silver or gold wedding rings. Are you afraid that the result will be disappointing? Don’t be afraid, you will always be helped by a professional who will give you the right guidance to make a beautiful ring.

give away bride

Giving away the bride is an old tradition done by the father. He walks in with the bride when all the guests are in the room. Of course, this does not have to be done this way. You can just as easily walk down the aisle with your spouse or strut your stuff alone. It is completely original to enter dancing. The guests will be surprised!

Wedding dinner

It is useful if the guests know where they can sit during the wedding dinner. You can indicate this by means of nameplates. You can make these name tags in many fun ways. What do you think, for example, of a flower on every plate with a card attached to it? Or buy a photo frame for each guest with his or her own photo in it and place this photo on the board. This is especially fun when you have crazy, spontaneous photos of all the guests.

Opening dance

Traditionally, the bridal couple enters their wedding with a joint dance. An opening dance is often done to quiet, romantic music. But why not surprise your guests by transitioning this music into a modern song, to which you and your spouse do a hip dance. It’s absolutely spectacular when you involve some friends in your plan and you spontaneously start dancing. This way you get everyone on the dance floor!

Guestbook

A wedding naturally requires a guest book. You can take a normal simple guestbook with questions that the guests can answer, but you can also take a more original approach. How about a video guestbook, for example? All guests can record a video message for the bride and groom. You can then watch the recordings at home and put them on a DVD.
