The power of man as a mass

People are individuals and yet it can also work as a collective. Humanity can band together and form a front, just look, for example, at how a trade union exercises its power. The power of a group of people who share the same opinion (often in an opposition role) and have this expressed or defended by an elected man or woman.

Paving a way to your goal

Books have been written about how a crowd works, but just look at the animals and you will immediately see how it works. Herds of antelopes or zebras stand together to ward off the bloodthirsty lions, panthers, cheetahs, etc. or actually to ensure safety. Guarantees are of course not given, but the chance that you can achieve this as a group is greater and see here, for example, the progress towards democracy in the Arab countries.

Dictator

The dictatorship of a number of leaders there, which has been accepted all these years, will end at some point. And what the moment is, who knows. The fact is that at some point it is often the younger generation, because they will have the most to lead, that they take action to make their voice heard. No longer accepting that someone else tells you what you should do as an individual. And if enough (young) people have that same feeling or possibly make each other think, something will happen. A common interest has suddenly arisen. The dictator who imposes something on us, stagnates us, etc., must go.
How this will continue depends on other factors, but that one or a few people initiated something that started to work like a domino.

Spiral Dynamics

Spiral Dynamics clearly illustrates how humanity is structured in different phases and what phase certain areas on Earth are in and how people get to that new higher layer. Not motivated by what someone says, but something that arises when people are ready, perhaps have learned enough, to move to that next layer. Spiral Dynamics displays it in colors, but the colors are less relevant than what those colors stand for. In a few words it is the following:

  • beige: survival, the instructive
  • purple: security, clan-like
  • red: power, the egocentric
  • blue: order, meaning
  • orange: success, strategic
  • green: community, putting things into perspective
  • yellow: synergy, the pragmatic
  • turquoise: holism, the global

Hazards

This does not mean that if those crowds can actually break the ice, it is automatically good. In fact, after such an activity there is often such a euphoric mood that the next step is not immediately taken up. And wherever there are people, situations are also abused and other despots or fundamentalists with an apparently democratic and financially lucrative story can unconsciously find space.

Leaders

Leaders are crucial, but in a large crowd of people there is often no clear leader present. That also makes it difficult to start a conversation, but that does not alter the fact that a lot is happening in the background. People who are centrally active within a group can quickly set things in motion, mobilize people and get the masses moving.

Finally

With a crowd of people you can achieve something that you may not be able to achieve as an individual, but it does not guarantee improvement. Unless the preparation is good and that generally also implies that there is a plan ready to proceed. In that case, the leaders are usually known. But the driving force of a crowd remains a separate phenomenon.
