Children’s Aid Foundation: what does this foundation do for children?

The Children’s Aid Foundation is one of the many charities in the Netherlands. As the name suggests, the aim of the Children’s Aid Foundation is to provide help to children. These are underprivileged children who have problems at home for which the Children’s Aid Foundation raises money to give their lives more shine. Kinderhulp is an honest foundation, where the money actually ends up with the children and is not left behind. The Children’s Aid Foundation has a CBF quality mark, has existed since 1959 and therefore raises money for underprivileged children who have problems at home. These problems may include lack of money, meaning the children can never go on holiday, do not have a bicycle or PC and do not receive Sinterklaas gifts. To raise money, the foundation recruits donors and organizes collection campaigns so that children who feel excluded due to their special home situation gain more self-esteem and joy.

What exactly does the Children’s Aid Foundation purchase with the funds raised?

  • Sinterklaas gifts
  • Playground equipment
  • Room furnishings, such as a computer
  • Misuse
  • Memberships at sports clubs

The Children’s Aid Foundation also organizes

  • Camping holidays
  • Foster care weekends
  • Theater performances

Valuable

It is not redundant to say that the work of the Children’s Aid Foundation is very valuable. Every child wants to be able to join in with the rest by going on holiday, having a computer, being proud of the Sinterklaas gifts, being able to cycle to school and joining a sports club. For most families these are normal and self-evident things, but not for these children. The foundation’s fundraising campaigns reduce the difference for these children, between them and children who can participate in everything in society. The result of this is that the Children’s Aid Foundation contributes well to developing a sense of self-esteem and pride in the children and reduces the feeling that they are missing out compared to the rest of the children. This makes their work expensive. Because the situation of the children from the target group is so different.

Every child has the right to happiness

As many as 1 in 20 children in the Netherlands use youth care. Because these children know that their situation is different, they often feel left out. These children include children who live in foster homes or institutions, or who live in families where every dime has to be spared. Every parent wants their child to have a fun childhood and many are focused on making these fun things (sports activities or other activities such as music lessons, Sinterklaas gifts, holidays) possible for their children. Unfortunately, this happiness is often not available to these children. A large number of them live in foster homes, institutions and families with financial problems.
